Participatory survey of citrus in the “Recôncavo Baiano region” with emphasis on the threat of huanglongbing

Abstract Huanglongbing (HLB) is one of the most devastating diseases for citrus sector. In Brazil, state Bahia free disease, however it on constant alert to prevent its introduction. One main areas exploitation in located Recôncavo Baiano’s identity territory and characterized by family-based production. This study aimed perform a participative phytosanitary diagnosis with growers from “Recôncavo Baiano” region, recording their perception regarding HLB vector, Diaphorina citri. The diagnosis, which featured 109 interviews, was carried out five prominent cities production (Cruz das Almas, Governador Mangabeira, Muritiba, Santo Antônio de Jesus São Felipe). results showed that 70% never heard disease. It also indicated only 6% farmers have technical assistance. Even tradition farmers, use technologies still limited. presented constitute an important tool defense, as provides strategic information enable planning indispensable actions preventing entry this territory, minimize negative impacts, contributing maintenance chain.
